2nd stage St Amand Montrond (individual time trial): time's on your mind
The race reintroduces the individual time trial.
The start and finish will be in the city of Saint Amand Montrond (Cher) and the 45 km long circuit will be perfect to mesure the rider's individual performances. Most probably an important stage for its winner.
This 2nd stage brings many new things to the Tour du Limousin. First of all, it's the first time the Tour du Limousin visits Saint Amand Montrond.
A perfect occasion to share the race with our neighbours from the Cher which have a proven cycling culture (several times stage city for Paris-Nice, Tour de France stage city, …).
Second, the comeback of the individual time trial in the Tour du Limousin. The last time this race contained a time trial was in 1993, when Charly Mottet won in the streets of Limoges. The time trial specialists will be able to give a show here, as long as they are capable of a high power performance over 45 kilometers.
It's important to mention that the Tour du Limousin is the only French race after the Tour de France which organises a full time trial stage. The 45 km distance allows the riders to get a good idea of their time trial performance for their future goals (Tour of Spain and, at the end of September the World Championships).
Looking at the route we see nothing really new: the first kilometer is slightly going up, the rest of the route is flat, with a short descent towards the finish … 45 km made for time trial experts … The evening of this stage, the yellow jersey will have good chances for the final win, but we'll only be half-way in the programme the organisation has in mind ...
